Web-coding, unmasked
The site is really shaping up, but I’m still running into a few issues. Last week, when I had the new site built originally, I had a Facebook Application plugged into the site to mirror the posts and comics there. This was working with the Comicpress system and not the new Easel system. It doesn’t seem “impossible,” to add it to the Easel system, but I’m leary of destroying my whole site again, so I’m working at it much slower than last time. Until I’m able to get this finished, I’ll still be mirroring the comics on the Facebook page, but these will be done by hand when I grab a moment to do it and without comic notes available in the archives, so the timing will be inconsistent. It would be better to just check the site to see new comics.
Another interesting feature I’m trying to get working on the back-end, is the ability to have multiple comics running simultaneously. I would love to (and eventually plan to) have the No Stereotypes and Experiment archives up on this site, but haven’t yet due to fear I will break everything again. Lurking on the Frumph forums has aided some incite, but I think I’m going to have to break down and buy a “How to Program in PHP” textbook because the online tutorials are more advanced than my skills, and they’re beginner.
The Portfolio section of the site will be populated starting next week. I have been going over my available work and I think I’m going to have to have a grand art session stretching 2-years to replace everything with current work. I have a lot of drawing ahead of me and wouldn’t change it for the world.

Comicpress is no longer supported, so Frumph has created Comic Easel, which is working, but I’m still running into interesting problems that confuse me. I’m able to load up the comics as a featured image in one theme, but not the one which the comics actually show up in correctly and the one I would like to keep using for the site. I might have to change the site theme again, so in the meantime, if things get broken, it’s because I’m banging around behind the curtain. I should have gone to a computer programming school and not an art institution instead. This is where the time is spent so there has to be money there, right?
I’m drafting up another help message to Frumph describing my problem. I’ll keep you all informed. If anyone is willing to lend some PHP help, I’d be appreciative.
UPDATE: We’re working on the problem.

I couldn’t figure out the formatting issue myself tonight so I sent a message to Philip M. Hofer, a.k.a. Frumph, the original designer who made the plug-in. If anyone can figure it out, he can. This guy has been working on webcomic archiving way back since adapting Keenlite Pro from a pearl system to one of the first pre-Wordpress CSS systems. It wouldn’t even surprise me if he has had some hands in the rydia system that Dan Hernandez came up with.
He was one of the powerhouses behind the original Comicpress plug-in for WordPress, but that is no longer supported. There isn’t even anyone writing patches for it anymore… So the ball is in Phil’s court. I hope he can help me.

Well, I got the first 6 days uploaded and in the queue to go tomorrow, but I’ve run into a problem with my Sunday comic. See, it’s double sized. All of my Sunday comics are, but the way that Easel is set up, the featured image placement isn’t tall enough for the Sunday so it’s formatted strangely and I’m too tired to fix it right now. I’ll work on it all week until I can get the CSS under control. Anyone else familiar with the Easel WordPress theme?

I had 2 weeks of comics ready to go and Comicpress, the WordPress plugin I was using to manage my archives, crashed and took the site with it. I have changed over to Easel, but it will take some time. I will have to rebuild everything tonight. Thank you for your patience.
There will be a new daily comic starting tomorrow, at midnight.
